Join us for the latest developments surrounding executive orders from the Trump administration and their implications for higher education institutions. In a rapidly evolving compliance landscape, staying informed is critical. Lynn Clements, senior director of people insights at Berkshire Associates, will provide timely, expert insights into these ongoing changes and what they mean for your organization.

This session will break down key compliance shifts and offer strategic guidance to help you navigate recent executive actions aimed at ending “illegal DEI” efforts in the federal government and among federal contractors and grantees as well as private employers. The session will focus on Executive Order 14151, “Ending Radical Government DEI Programs and Preferencing” and Executive Order 14173, “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity.”

EO 14151 rescinded diversity policies that had been implemented under the Biden administration and directed all federal agencies to end DEI mandates, programs and activities, DEI offices and positions, and all "equity-related" grants or contracts.

EO 14173 rescinded EO 11246, which required federal contractors to development affirmative action plans based on race and sex. It also requires the termination of “all discriminatory and illegal preferences, mandates, policies, programs, activities, guidance, regulations, enforcement actions, consent orders and requirements” in federal agencies and asks each agency to identify up to nine potential civil compliance investigations of various entities, including institutions of higher education with endowments over $1 billion.

Key takeaways include:

  • Understanding the broad impact of these recent executive orders and pending legal challenges
  • The latest updates and Administration enforcement priorities, especially at DOL and EEOC
  • The importance of reviewing your employment practices and programs for “illegal DEI”
  • Proactive strategies to safeguard compliance with federal anti-discrimination laws
